Even though I'm sure Demi Moore doesn't need my sympathy, I've been sad for her since the divorce. Following the end of her marriage, she went to rehab. Since then, the tabloids reported that her daughter's want to take out a restraining order against her. Then, the news broke about how her ex, Ashton Kutcher, is seeing Mila Kunis. Sources are saying Demi's devastated.

See, it's not that Ashton's seeing just anyone. He's smooching on Hollywood's #1 It Girl. Everyone loves Mila – literally! I've been on countless websites and no one has a bad word to say about her. And, it doesn't look like it's just a fling. It might be serious. This all tells Demi is that it's over. For good.

On a side note, maybe Mila and Ashton were quiet about their relationship so as to not hurt Demi's feelings. If so, Mila went up another 100 points in my book. It would be compassionate of her to take another woman's feelings into consideration, especially one who isn't doing very well emotionally.

So, Demi's no longer married and, for now, doesn't have her children around to support her. What's a girl to do? Get busy, of course!

One reason why The Rules tells women to make sure they keep up with their own interests is because they'll be there to fall back on. It need not always be a divorce or estrangement with your children as in Demi's case. Maybe your husband is busy traveling. Or, your children started school and you're not sure what to do with the free time.

I'm not trivializing Demi's heartbreak and saying all will be solved if she simply makes a To Do list. But, "idle hands are the devil's workshop" is a saying for good reason. If too much time is spent in your head contemplating your woe, even the most successful people are likely to feel sorry for themselves. I believe in staying busy. As Ellen taught me, "Keep moving because it's harder to hit a moving target."

For the most part, your family and friends will always be there for you. In the event they aren't, though, you need to have the wherewithal to stand on your own two feet. Keep cultivating your interests so you're never bored. Make the best of a breakup. That way if you're on your own for awhile, you're doing what you enjoy until people calm down and things turn themselves around.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel for Demi, but it's up to her to find it. She might not be ready to date, which is fine. But, were I her, I'd turn the loneliness into an opportunity to explore my new found freedom and do what I've always wanted. When life hands you lemons…

Tell me what you think! What have you done to keep yourself busy when on your own? The more creative the better!

Until next time…
