Yesterday we learned officially from Fox that Mariah Carey has agreed to join American Idol as one of their new judges for the forthcoming season. Today we hear from Mimi herself about her new gig. When the confirmation came yesterday, it was reported that MC would be making somewhere between $12-$17 million to be judge for one season of AI … today we are hearing she will be making more than that. Damn, girl. Get that money. Click below for these updates to the Mimi on Idol story.

Mariah Carey just became the HIGHEST PAID JUDGE in reality television … because her one-year deal with "American Idol" is worth close to $18 MILLION … this according to sources connected to "Idol." Carey's deal dwarfs the contract Jennifer Lopez signed when she joined the judge's table — J.Lo only scored a measly $12 mil for her first year on the show. Carey also blows past Britney Spears … who's making $15 million on "X Factor." Somewhere … Nick Cannon is smiling.

Yeah, Mimi's first AI tweet isn't all that special … it's the same standard tweet that most new reality TV show judges post after they are announced on these kinds of shows. Also, the $18 million dollar pay day hasn't been officially confirmed. Still, there is no question A.) that Mimi will make a significant impact on American Idol and B.) that Mariah was paid HANDSOMELY to join the show. We'll have to wait and see if the investment pays off for American Idol. IMHO, Mimi will make a good judge but so many people assume that because she is an excellent singer then the show will bring forth excellent singers as well. I personally believe that no matter who judges the show, the same sort of forgettable "winner" will be crowned champion again because, in the end, the audience picks the winner. As we've seen in the past few years of the show, the AI audience loves the same sort of contestant … white bread and boring. Still, Mariah Carey will be a great addition to the show … whether that will be enough to make the show worth watching is another issue altogether.
